ICHTHUS
is a Christian
Bulletin Board system which has been running in Caversham, Reading, in the south of England since
February 1987. It is not exclusively devoted to Christian matters and you will find much material about
running BBSs, general interest messaging, files and programs for many different kinds of computers (including
obsolete ones!), etc.
On ICHTHUS there is a file library of over fifty areas. It contains many files of interest to Christians (including the Online Bible, an invaluable study aid with texts in many languages, including Greek and Hebrew), but there are also programs for different makes of computers, including obsolete ones. Being a bulletin board system, it offers the friendliness and helpfulness of the system operators plus a fast download speed for files (including the fastest and most sophisticated download protocols) - no annoying delays. The software used to run Ichthus is TBBS (The Bread Board System). It had the reputation of being one of the fastest BBS systems ever written because it was written entirely in assembly language. It is no longer supported by the manufacturers but there is now an owners' support board. ICHTHUS may be accessed using a dial-up modem on the following telephone number:
It is also accessible via the Internet by telnetting to mesnil.demon.co.uk (though you need to wait up to thirty seconds
to wake up the connection!), or you can email
to request further information.
ICHTHUS is integrated into the Fidonet and FamilyNet, which are Fido Technology Networks.
